My Career Journey – Master’s Degree Essay

My Bachelor of Arts degree in English and professional writing served me well in my early career of daily news to magazine publishing to internal and executive communication to content and social media marketing throughout the digital sphere. It has been an intentional challenge to keep fresh and on point with growing trends that are largely shaped by technology.

My Master of Arts degree in Writing and Digital Communication has been the most pivotal decision of my career and my life.

My goal has been to marry my strong writing and editing background that began in print, then expanded to search and online communications and marketing.

When I began searching for a digital communication program, the stars aligned when Agnes Scott College sought me out on LinkedIn for a full-time master’s degree. Full immersion in coursework with business professionals seeking this level of ambition, curiosity, and collaboration, completely re-energized my career.

Upon acceptance as a founding member, I was awarded the Linda Lentz Hubert Scholarship and the Founder’s Scholarship for writing. I was also invited to give feedback in focus groups and a national college consortium academic review board.

What Can I Do For You?

I can turn your ideas into compelling stories. Here’s a small sampling of my research and writing skills, creativity and strategic thinking, ability to write, design, and revise a PowerPoint presentation, present and speak to live audiences pitching business proposals and a variety of other topics, create a website in WordPress, ensuring it meets accessibility standards and search engine optimization.

Digital Communication Coursework

A diverse sampling of the professional pieces of writing and multimedia digital communication created in the Writing and Digital Communication program are included here. These pieces demonstrate my ability to target different audiences, analyze a digital communication problem and present a viable solution, research and synthesize information, and effectively present verbally to a graduate audience.

The Digital Portfolio Design class taught me how to build back-end directory structures of web platforms and analyze front-end user interfaces. Among the learning outcomes, I have demonstrated the ability to constructively critique the work of other students through peer/group interaction, and analyze the impacts and ethical dimensions of writing and digital communication in various contexts.
